Cloudy beer and moving barrels
Cloudy beer and moving barrels
Tried my second brew the other day, tastes great but its slightly cloudy. Its been in the barrel for about two months now but its not got that cold now its spring and all. Will it help to clear it if I move the barrel into the fridge for a couple of days? The other question was, after moving a barrel how long do you have to leave it to let all the sediment settle out of it again?

Good question. So, if a keg has been clearing untouched for a few weeks, developing its own CO2 through primers etc... and is ready to try, would it be okay to first stick in the boot and drive to someone else's house? Obviously with a couple of days spare between arriving and drinking, but would it damage the beer? Ta.
when i did it i drove at a snails pace with it held upright only for a couple of miles and it took a couple of days to settle, although the fall out at the bottom had broken up and was much more likley to be carried out when dispensing it from a corny. i wouldnt recommend it really unless youve racked it off from secondary in to a keg and there will be much less sediment present.
I was going to put the barrel in the fridge, but after having a second look I decided it wouldnt fit. Anyway I had another pint out of it last night and it seemed a lot clearer so no need anyway.
As for transporting a barrel, I was thinking about taking one to a festival this year. If I use the barrel as a secondary, then empty it, clean it and put the beer back in, with luck should be less cloudly when it gets there.
