Coopers Colour & Bitterness Comparison

Post by Paddy Bubbles » Wed May 18, 2011 3:31 pm

If you're a Coopers kit fan like me, you might find this useful. It's a comparison of the colour and bitterness ratings of their various kits. You'd think Coopers would make a table like this available on their website, but no, that would be too useful to their customers...

That is an interesting compilation, you should write to their customer service and suggest that they make it available in table form.

If you go to their website, they list these specs with each of the brew cans.

I have found them quite handy when adapting their kits.

I was told by their forum moderator that you work these concentrated figures out as follows-

Coopers Original Series Lager brewed to 23L for example-

Colour of 90EBC (90x1.7÷23 =6.65EBC)

Bitterness of 390IBU (390x1.7÷23=28.82IBU)

The quoted figures are per kg, hence the need to multiply by 1.7 (kg), and then you divide by your brewlength, which in this case is 23 (L).

This doesn't take into account any additional fermentables that you may use though, but I then run the rest through a piece of brewing software to give me a fairly good idea of the balance of a brew.

Cheers

AG#42 - Heritage Double Ale - 10.5%
