Keg question

Post by The plumber » Sun Jul 13, 2014 1:06 pm

After filling up my plastic 5 gallon keg with St Peters Cream stout do I need to put it somewhere dark ?
I know it has to be in a warm place.

Plumber, Turbo; Why make a rod for your own backs?

Why put a keg, made of thick, opaque plastic anywhere 'dark' ....?

You need to keep it somewhere cool which means it will probably be reasonably dark, at least not in sunshine.
My plastic kegs used to live in the garage.

Ditch I had that many problems with poly kegs leaking from the taps mainly ,that now I place the keg in one of those big builders rubble tubs and bin bag over the top just in case it sprays out the top of bucket that's the main reason for the bin bag. I keep my kegs in a spare room as I have no garage makes a f..king right mess if I get any leaks. Now I don't even carbonate in the kegs just don't trust them beer taps leaking c02 leaking out during carbonation etc got a corny keg I condition and store in the poly keg inject some co2 in , to get shot of 02 leave for as long as I want and force carb in the corny best thing I ever got .

Plumber sorry for going off track

Crazy. I was reading, just the other day, about a leaky tap. Know what? I've used BK's for years and never had a leaky tap. I wonder; Do people take them off, to sanitise them?

It was good though, the night the tap handle came off in my hand, as I was pouring one! That called for some quick thinking!

I get a leaky tap from time to time, Think I might need a new rubber O ring for around the tap.
I can make it tight as can be, but on the odd occasion it still leaks. Think me opening the tap and closing it on and off lossens a nut or somthing

I'm taking it ye Not talking a BK there then, Al'? That's what I use. And I've never removed a tap from one in my life.

Not sure it can be done. Though, I seem to recall seeing people saying they do it :|

Leave well alone man, myself.

 Oohh!!! That sounds Nass Tayyy!

What happened? Where do they split? I mean, I was quite accepting of my ones tap handle coming off. My god, I've had the thing Years now. How many times must I have worked that bugger back and forth? Had my moneys worth. Now, I can just use a wrench as a handle.

But, you're saying 'Splitting', not 'breaking'? Smacks of dreadful plastic. No? And, what next might such plastic do ....?

The best I can explain is it spilt at the point where the spout joins the tube part that goes into the keg the area before the tap if you get my drift.
Lost a good ten pints over night the mess was unreal swmbo was not to pleased so turned the keg on its side cleaned up having to lift the laminate floor as it got under the flooring this has now been changed as it had swelled f...ing great, any how rushed out to local hbs got a new tap them b&q got a big rubble bucket , put in another 80g of sugar re-carbonated put keg in big bucket, guess what you got it happened a second time just as well I got two tap and a bloody big bucket .
So I said f.. k it got a corny keg and ditch I'm not kidding should of got One from the start . Trying to guess is the lid on to tight or to lose or is the f..king tap going to blow off again was not worth the heart ache and arguments with the boss oh and the laminate cost more the corny .

Love my corny keg :D

:( That's just f**king harsh, mate. Sadly; I think it's a portent of the future.

I won't go into the whole, 'My Rubber Boots' story again. But; Western firms are getting Eastern firms to produce identical kit. Fraction of the price. Made of absolute sh!t materials.

You pay the same price as before. The goods seem identical. Yet they are rank sh!t.

You figure out the economics .....

Hmmm... reminds me of my second (and last) pair of Dunlop safety wellies. Total garbage that split right down the seams on both boots within two months of buying them. The previous pair had done several years of regular work without any issues.

Happy brewing,

Ian.

Ian! Exactly! How nice to have open corroboration that I'm Not actually just off on some personal tirade against Chinese gear ~ their rubber, especially.

F**k me! They ever get the nod to start producing car tyres ....?
