Help! Rehydrated yeast for first time but doesn't seem
Re: Help! Rehydrated yeast for first time but doesn't seem
Leave it alone, leave the lid shut for three weeks (imo). Too much looking could cause problems and expose it. Just leave it be. Why didn't you dry hop after fermentation had finished?

I was advised to do this with my last brew and it turned out well.Manngold wrote:Leave it alone, leave the lid shut for three weeks (imo). Too much looking could cause problems and expose it. Just leave it be. Why didn't you dry hop after fermentation had finished?

So I've got the brown Krausen thing on the lid rather than just the sides as I usually would.
What's the actual benefit of rehydrating the yeast? Does it speed up the fermentation or ferment "better", or both?

I've got a wine kit to put on for Mrs Knott later - would wine benefit from yeast being rehydrated aswell?

It basically means that you start with as many healthy yeast cells in your brew as possible. Pitching yeast dry, can kill/damage up to 50% of the little blighters!
If the yeast in your kit has been stored at high temperatures or is near it's bbe date, then you could be under pitching enough yeast for complete fermentation. Under pitching yeast also means that any good yeast in the brew is over worked and gets stressed, giving off unwanted flavours in your brew.
Cheers

Come on, you've been asking us these types of questions for long enough now to ask yourself that question and get the right answer!SquireKnott wrote:
The bag of Amarillo is floating on the top - I forgot to weigh it down. Should I fish it out and stick something heAvy in or leave well alone?

I've always been a firm believer in there being no such thing as a stupid question - until now.Hopping_Mad wrote:Come on, you've been asking us these types of questions for long enough now to ask yourself that question and get the right answer!SquireKnott wrote:
