What a difference a day makes

Post by MartyMcFly » Sun Sep 28, 2014 4:48 pm

Just tried my Coopers stout after a few months off the brewing due to moving house and things, and I'm sick of drinking Heineken...

The thing is, I tried it yesterday, after barreling it on Wednesday and it was a bit green with a funny smell. Drinkable, but weird, and nowt like it should be. Trying one now, and it's a different bloody drink! I'd be happy if I was served this in the pub. After 1 day? Bloody hell.

I've just put another 2 on to ferment, one with a kilo of light malt, and the other with a kilo of medium. Brewed the light malt one up to about 22.5 litres and the medium one to 21 litres. Gonna see how they turn out. No extra sugar or owt either, just used what I had in. Oh, and used Wilkos gervin yeast as I lost my coopers yeast in the house move...

Anyone else used different yeast on the Coopers? Actually, this one I'm drinking now is probably Wilkos gervin too, not sure if any taste difference to the proper yeast, but it's nice. 8)
