How Much sugar?

Could I add a can of treacle on top of the kilo of sugar added at the start or does it all have to be a kilo max?
Cheers John

Any sugar (inc. treacle) you add will be converted to alcohol. So yes, you can add more sugars, it will add to the alcoholic content of your brew.

As long as the yeast benefit it works, but don't make the yeasties lazy. Make them work for it, give them competition. If your upping the fermentable ingredients it'd be worth upping the yeast.

Adding extra sugars will make the beer stronger but as it's more fermentable than the malt extract you'll end up with a thinner beer. So if you want rocket fuel then yes, if you want a better beer cut back on the sugar and replace it with the treacle. If you want an even better beer replace the sugar with dried malt extract.

Thanks folks. I will do 500g white brew sugar, 150g spray malt and 450g of treakle. Don't want rocket fuel just a good tasty pint. I will double up on the yeast and it's on a Dark Velvet Stout.

I like Holland & Barrett 454g jars of liquid mat extract. It was even better when it was buy one get one at half price :-)

In today's coopers English bitter I'm using.......
The can of coopers (obviously)
1kg muntons beer kit enhancer
1 x 454g jar of Malt extract :-)
Kit yeast.

We'll see what happens :-)

I use a jar or two of H&B's stuff to all my brews.....I add normal white sugar for light beers and brown for the darker ones..always works out perfect.

Good call :-)

They also do jars of Molasses for £1.99.
Good for adding to stout :-)
