Just had a thought. Before I start me Wilko cerveza. Would it have a better result with some yeast from the bottom of my pressure barrel of coopers bitter which is nearly finished? Or some that I kept in a bottle on my window sill just out of interest.
IE would this coopers yeast make a better finished product than the included pack wilko kit yeast? Or am I in danger of ruining the brew?
Thanks
John

Not sure if Wilko use different yeast for their kits. Some companies use a traditional ale yeast for the heavier beers and an ale/lager mix for the lighter beers. It would defo change the final beer.
When I first started brewing I wanted to make tasty crisp lager. I tried every lager kit I could find and always the results were close but not right. Found this place and learnt about yeast and cool fermentation and get a nice brew every time. Think a lot of ale drinkers swop the kit yeast for one that will give them a better result.

So would I be better off to just use the kit yeast then?

Won't hurt to use the saved yeast. Won't end up as a lager though. More a golden ale. And you would do well to grow a starter to ensure a good fermentation. As cellone says, much of a beers character comes from the yeast....want a lager use a lager strain
Just like trying new ideas!

So would i be vastly oversimplyfying things to say if i bought a lager yeast for my cerveza or any kit lager or even possibly a golden ale kit and fermented it in the coldest room in my house i would get a much better or proper lager?

A better fermentation with a lager yeast yes,but yes that's an oversimplification. True lagers traditionally have long cold conditioning. Its why there is much discussion about temp control on jims

Weks go get a coopers pils (kit yeast is lager) if you can brew it below 20c and at a steady temp you will have lager that tastes like lager. It will massively improve in a month in a fridge. I brew in a fridge with an st1000 temp controller but I lager in a fridge without.
