Okay, Manngold, lest I suddenly vanish from the internet, until I can source a new ISP, by the power of thought .....
Gas? Ditch doesn't us it. Period.
Why not? Because Ditch has tried, over a span of forty years and more, to find this magical equilibrium of which the top tapping gasser boys speak.
Frankly? Never had anything but a couple of pints of gushing foam. Followed by the glug of air being sucked into the keg by the third " Pint ". And I've tried the lot. BK's to Beer Spheres. Expert advice and guidance. Took shit back as faulty. Had it agreed as faulty. Accepted the new model. Same shit.
Look; I'll stop there. No point in me typing the story of my life. Someone will only pop up and over ride me, while ignoring what ever I say.
Your choice. Keep asking. Keep getting told the equivalent of " Allahuackbah! ". Go your own way.
Me? Decades later, I do it My way. I've learned to love my own stuff. Allah can go shove his gas up his allarse. Only man I ever enjoyed a Great pint of HB with? He too did it the way I do now. No gas. Crack the cap. That was about thirty years ago. All else has been froth, foam and glugging.

Re: 1st Brew - Pressure barrel failure
Ditch and surfer, thanks for your responses.
What I really wanted to know was why my beer wouldn't come out my old barrel. If there is a leak, can I fill it with water and then draw the water out to see if there is a leak. Will that work?
Ta

Re: 1st Brew - Pressure barrel failure
I found my leak by putting a co2 top on and injecting co2. The previous cap washer was wonky but with the co2 I found the tap was also leaking.
I'm sure some more experienced brewers will have more tips.

Manngold; I'm not switched on enough, about physics, to explain what I clearly know to be the case.Manngold wrote:What I really wanted to know was why my beer wouldn't come out my old barrel.
But, basically? It's all to do with ..... I dunno. Vacuums? Some sh!t like that. Beer can't come out all the time the air bubble's holding it in. Someone'll be along in a white coat and explain all this to a T, presently.
My working answer is to crack the cap open. Allowing air in and breaking that bubble. Beer flows like a boss.

Thanks guys. I think the science would be too much for me as well!!! I am more humanities based than science.
If I do the twist method that you say, how long will that beer last mate?
Thanks, what's wrong with your ISP??

Mangs; I've used the twist for probably a twelve month or more now. Nothing goes wrong. Ye need to develop this ten year old girl side of yeself. (
Anyone making anything of that has far bigger problems than I do)
Just imagine that ye twisting that lid down so that a ten year old girls life depends on her being able to open it, with one hand. Wrench it on like a Boss? She dies, horribly!
That's why I now only ever use the very tips of two or three of my fingers. I 'Spin' the lid closed. I Never grip it with four and the heel of my thumb and wrench it shut.
And my beer is fine. From first to last. Never a problem
That said? Yes; I Do tend to get through four gallons in a week. But, I'm sure, if ye sifted through my main thread? I used to have up to four heaters going, at one time. That'd mean I had beer sitting about for weeks.
Hell; I even drink my stuff straight from the FV! It's all recorded there.
My view is simple: F**k those who say ye can or can't do This. Because such and such a book or law of physics says so.
Bible and Koran are books too. Full of abject sh!t! My thread? Full of hard core, hands on, been there and done it, empirical Truth!
Do I Sound Like some smarmy c*** who'd bullsh!t ye, to sell what I'm saying, or win an internet f**king arguement???
