Blimey Weks, there is a pic in my Boots book just like that one.

Truth is, while I just about remember beer kits being on sale in Boots (in Bradford they were next to the cafe—Christ, I just remembered that Boots used to have a cafe!) by the time I was old enough to think seriously about buying one (15?) they'd stopped doing them. I also seem to remember Morrisons doing a reasonably serious range, including some of those brands from your Boots image — Geordie and Edme in particular, both of which are still in production.

Nothing like a bit of nostalgia for a Sunday evening, eh!

EB. How'd ya manage to get the picture on?

I think I've tried all those kits years ago. Also one nice one called Cumbria you can't get anymore. Also for some reason Muntons was called muntona then.
I used to use the big 4lb tins of boots malt extract later on boiled up with hops and crystal malt.

Weks: take the 'IMG' address for forums from photobucket and paste it into the forum :)

The others (HTML, etc.) are for other website formats. You need to make sure you select the forum one.

Hope that helps ;)

Was 'Cumbria' a sister company or offshoot of Geordie do you reckon? Brand names starting at the north of the country and working their way down ;)

Don't know. But they were good kits especially for northern style beers. And they were the first I ever saw that used a thick plastic bag in cardboard box instead of a tin.

I think they actually made in Cumbria but not sure.

I'm thinking of maybe making up s Geordie Scottish export kit next. Do you think it would be nearer McEwan's export or scotch if I added 1kg of bke or would it be nearer with a kg of DME instead.
