Upping the ante!

Post by patwestlake » Fri Mar 27, 2015 8:50 pm

Looking to improve a kit. Here's the plan for something 4.5-5.5%, suitably hoppy with good aroma;

Milestone IPA (Well, its LME at least!)
500g medium DME boiled in 2 litres water and once dissolved, start the clock;
30g Galaxy (12%) at 20 mins
20g Cascade (5.5%) at 10mins
20g Galaxy (12%) at 5 mins
10g of each at heat off and then steeped for 20 mins
strain and add to FV, make up to 21 litres (rather than 23)
Milestone Gervin Yearst at 22/23degC
7 days @ 22/23 degC
20g of each dry hopped in a muslin bag
7 days @ 22/23 degC
Batch prime 100g brewing sugar, 14 days in bottles @ 22/23degC for secondary
minimum 14 days in the garage 12-15degC max

Thoughts? Comments? I've aslo got Amarillo (9.5%), Northern Brewer (9%), Challenger (8%), EKG (5%) if that would be better?

Cheers, Pat

Hi Pat

A couple of questions -

Are you using leaf or pellet hops?

Is the Milestone IPA kit quite bitter or is it more of a session IPA?

Cheers
