American Brown Ale

Post by neillf » Tue Mar 22, 2016 9:25 pm

Hi, I bought a couple of Nothern brown ale kits, knocked up one as per instructions and while I like the style in moderation I'm chewing my way through the batch. It's just a bit too sweet for my tastes and I've been putting off making the next batch. Looked around at recipes and came across ABA, seems to be an English brown ale hopped with cascade. I'm thinking of making up the 2nd kit but dry hopping with cascade for week. Anyone tried something similar ? Any other suggestions? Would like to keep the nutty flavours but calm the sweetness.
Thanks.

ABAs are generally higher gravity than N brown as well as higher in IBUs.
I have one on my to brew list that I am going to hop with chinook and simcoe.
If you like cascades go for it.
Are we talking about extract kits?
I'm just here for the beer.

No, it's a liquid malt kit, I could boil maybe 25gms cascade in rinse of the pouch for 30mins. I will leave the gravity, it will come out around 4.7 - 4.8 which is good for me. Thanks.

It's a better brew northern brown ale (yes, sorry Rooky, an extract kit). Anyone any idea of IBUs for this kit? Thanks.
