Finings question
Finings question
Hi all,
I have a Bandit Brew just about ready for bottling. I was going to add some finings to help it clear and reduce the sediment in the bottles. I have some Clear-It and it contains potassium sorbate, is this going to prevent secondary fermentation in the bottles or is it such a small amount that it's not a problem?

Hello Keith i use wilkos finings in all my brews which is a seafood derivitive (Chitosan).It works for me but maybe someone on here who has a more scientific outlook than myself could explain what if any affects potassium sorbate may have.

gravity and time will do the job all by itself
patience can be the hardest brew skill to acquire..

Is it relating to the fact that you `seesome` yeast, put in the gelatin, then you don`t `seesome` yeast?

True but you will end up with far too much sediment in the bottle or barrel. I always fine in the secondary three days before transferring to the bottling/barreling vessel. That way most of the unwanted sediment is left behind. The answer to my question is, yes you can use it!
My local Nisa shop had some Kilner bitter kits for a fiver so I bought one, had to at that price. Should have bought a few as it tastes quite nice!
Used the Clear-it and after a few days the plastic bottles had firmed up nicely. So secondary fermentation is a go!

I never knew that Nisa did beer kits.

I went to `Nisa`, bought a Chicken and made a beer from that!

That`s old hat now.
I`ve never seen beer kits in `Nisa`.

You are correct about Finings in Kits. No need at all.
I tried it a few weeks ago in an IPA. I thought what is all the fuss about, this stuff cleared the beer no quicker than normal.

As others have said `Patience and waiting, blah, blah, blah.`

I won`t use Finings again because my Beers drop out clear as always.
Taste test of your two Beers tomorrow!

I stopped using gelatine in bottled beers. I hate the way the yeast kind of hangs around the bottom of the bottle without actually getting there. Use it in the pressure barrel.
