IPA

Post by Dan » Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:15 pm

Been out of the brewing game a while, Just finding my feet again.
In the newyear i intend to dabble a bit with the below.

I,ve bought a Coopers Brew A IPA 1.7Kg, And decided to get a Can of Coopers Light Malt Extract 1.5Kg.
Going to use Safale us-05.

Will this turn out ok? Would i need to add suger?
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Dan

You don’t need to add sugar. Unless you want to increase the OG/ABV. In that case, add something like 10-15% of the fermentables as brewing sugar (glucose/dextrose). Avoid sucrose (table sugar), if you can, as, in sufficient amounts, it can stress the yeast which risks imbalance (subtle off flavours) in the final product. Note too that if you add sugar (increase the OG of a kit recipe) you might want to add extra hops too. But you can always try that in your next batch, to see if it improves the beer according to your taste. Keep it simple, it’s only beer. 🍻

Dan, one of the best kits I have ever brewed (10 years experience).
I brew shortly to about 19/20 litres and that is about the only difference. Being tight I only ever use Brewing Sugar.
Beer is my drug of choice.

Thank you Gentleman, For your guidence.
Nallum, Think i will give the sugar a miss, Was thinking maybe use some Citra hops (good point) towards the end of fermention.
Nitro Jim, Really good point, Reducing the Litres.

Cheers

Besides reducing the amount of water (liquor) I use, I always produce a new kit (to me) without the addition of anything else. You can always "play" later. Citra would not be a hop that I would add to this kit.
