I posted on this in the equipment section. I destroyed three tin openers that were happy with beans, toms etc, and even looked at an industrial item on ebay. the sales at asda(copyright registered) turned up a prestige(copyright registered) item which takes the top off old style , eg, no razor edge on top of tin, £6.50. Don't use crap or you will end up hacking away at the critical moment with all sorts like I did. Thank you old kitchen knife(sterilised) and hammer(not sterilised, no copyright), Baden Powell and Heath Robinson would have been proud, apart from the language.

Jerry; Closely examine the bottom edge of the photo ..... See the 'extra' beneath the round? That's the side of the tin. And the big shadow, on the left side? That's cast by the tin.

I'd never actually stopped to give any of this any thought before. But, Kay - Jay appears to have got it in one; They have a 'deep' end, so they can store the yeast and such in there. Makes the lip too high for a tin opener.
