:D Yes indeed ... freaked my kids out as they were in the garden playing whilst I was in the wine cellar (shed!), came out with blood pouring down my chest - looked like a cheap horror film. The top of the bottle hit my cheek too and gave me a round bruise... looked exceptionally weird. It was the morning of an england game in the world cup .. I refused to go to A&E as it would have meant missing the match, so I held the gash closed with bits of plaster.

Sounds like you were pretty lucky too!

Hmmm .. I've tried this 4 times now - even (and only in the interests of science you understand) bottling early to try and get a well conditioned and carbonated beer without adding any priming sugar. Every time the beer has been as flat as a pancake!

The last brew I made was a 4.4% bitter using SO4 yeast and was in the FV for two weeks and when bottled still has got enough condition for me. I use the large quart bottles.

The trick to bottling early, is to know the brew you are dealing with and what the FG is normally......see what I do viewtopic.php?f=24&t=33931

In reply to one of the original questions, avoid Wychwood Brewery bottles if you are using a 2 handled capper. I found out this to my cost as I attempted to bottle my first brew.
