I use the foldable plastic crates you can get from Lidl

£3 and the large one takes about 28 pint Magners bottles. The crates fold flat when empty so handy to store away.
Free Bottle storage
Re: Free Bottle storage
To my knowledge, Guinness, Bulmers and Magners are all throw away's over here and come in either boxes or cardboard bases with plastic wrap. I've got to admit, I've never heard of Smithwicks, but many thanks for the heads up on it.St. Ailbhe's Brewery wrote: I'm in Ireland Newt, pint bottles of Guinness, Bulmers (you'd call that Magners) and Smithwicks are all still popular here. The bottles are returnable so I was deeply indebted to a few local barmen who sorted me out.
Re: Free Bottle storage
Without exaggeration I must have at least 40 of those in use around the house... used for washing, in the loft, kids toys, underbed storage etc etc. They are great, especially with the folding aspect of them, but I've never found them very strong. Certainly not strong enough to lift full of bottles (or cans for that matter when I used them for the shopping).Andy wrote:I use the foldable plastic crates you can get from Lidl

However, I've not seen the larger ones before and I can imagine that stacking and then filling rather than the other way round may well work. Looks like a trip through Lidl on Sunday.

Well, to be honest Newt, do yourself a favour and forget about it again: Smithwick's is muck. An Irish red ale that brings disrepute on the good name of ales everywhere. Awful stuff.
The bottles it comes in are great, but the beer itself is a bad, bad thing indeed.

Re: Free Bottle storage
The large one has a load capacity of 20Kg, I've carried one with 28 full pint bottles in it! Admittedly that must have been close to the weight limit.Newt Dundee wrote:Certainly not strong enough to lift full of bottles (or cans for that matter when I used them for the shopping).

(They might not be in sale this w/e at Lidl, usually only available as a "special")
Dan!
Re: Free Bottle storage
Sorry, the crates are exactly what I have at home, got confused by the smaller one being in the picture and assumed the others were bigger. If anyone needs some and can't get to a Lidl or wait for it to be on special again, I found these:Andy wrote:The large one has a load capacity of 20Kg, I've carried one with 28 full pint bottles in it! Unless the Lidl one's are of a heavier weight, they seem to be the same to me.
Scepticism aside, I'm prepared to give it a go.... when I get enough bottles all the same size, as mine are taller than the crate.
