As an update to this, I did buy 48 plastic bottles with screw lids that have come in quite handy. However, have amassed over 200 bottles, 2 mini kegs and 2 pressure barrels since Easter. Perhaps this is taking over my life.

I like Crabbies bottles. Dunno why really, but they're easy to cap with two-lever, hammer-on, or bench capper. We have quite a lot of them - about 20 gallons worth. I use them for my TC.
You can't get the labels off though, but as I have no pride I don't even try.

For some reason I'm using Marston's EPA bottles for the milds I'm making lately.

The weirdly experimental and/or crazy strong stuff I occasionally do goes into Bundaberg ginger beer bottles and J2O bottles!

I use 1 or 2 l PET bottles. The big supermarkets always have a special on for soda or sparkling water.

I've never had a problem with them.

I'm on a v tight budget though, but nevertheless it shows you can make your own beer for next to nothing.
