Hi all. I am about to dry hop, but in a slightly unorthodox fashion, so wanted some general guidance just before I start.

WA suggested a couple of things, of which I will follow, but wanted to make sure I am following the right process.

I couldn't get a muslin bag, so am using some tights, that have been cleaned, and will be boiled for 10 minutes. I am using a small glass that has been steralised. I plan to remove the tights from the pan, add the glass and then the hops and tie it using the remaining tight part. I will gently lower into the beer, until I am about 50 cm from the bottom, and then tie the remaining tights to the handle. I am going to steralise my hydrometer, drop it in, and leave it in there for the remaining time. Am I ok to tie the tights directly themselves to the handle, I cant see it being a problem, but would prefer not to do it wrong. After all this, I will snap the lid shut over the tights, and leave a slight gap as I have been doing so it can let off gas.

Does this all sound ok? I plan to bottle next Sunday / Monday, and would ideally like to put the hops in this evening or tomorrow evening.

Thanks

Hope you have all had a nice relaxing bank holiday, I was feeling worse for wear this morning!

Manngold,
50MM Not 50CM off the sediment! If you do 50CM, the Hops will be outside the FV! :D :D :D :D :D

Manngold,
I don`t know how heavy your shot glasses are, so sterilise 3 just in case you need the extra weight. If you get away with only using one, fine, but at least you will have the others to use if you need them.
All the rest of the rigmarole looks OK to me.

Ok. Was about to dry hop, but this is what I have after day 9. This is only my second brew, and was expecting the Krause to have disappeared. Is it safe to dry hop? Thanks

So the citra hops went in on Saturday. I thought I had weighed down the bag enough but it kept coming to the surface. The strange layer of gunk was still there, so I moved to one side (still in the fv) should I have removed it completely though?

Hello Man,
Did you use the extra shot glasses as suggested?
Skim off the muck from the top of the Beer. Sterilise and rinse all skimming gear first.
Hope this comes good for you!

Hey WA. I used a large shot glass and a egg cup in the end. But it wasn't heavy enough, and by the time I put it in I wasn't then sure what to do with it bobbing on the surface. In the end I left it and put the lid back on the fv. On inspection this evening I could smell the citra aroma and the muck had disappeared. Gravity was still 1.012. has been since Friday. Was planning to leave it to Friday to bottle (will make it 19 day's in the fv).

Hope it tastes as it smells!

Does it sound ok?

How was yours?

Man,
Was it a plastic Egg Cup? They are not heavy enough! :D :D
Leave it alone! 14 - 21 days in the FV is OK if you can stop playing about with it and smelling it and looking at it, Just Checking it, One more look before I go to bed,
Is the back Door locked, Better check my Beer then, are the Kittens in, Yes Love, Quick check on my Beer etc, etc, etc!
ELC! You are hooked now! :D

Hey WA. I am very hooked!

Bottled the shine on. The citra smelt amazing. Can't wait to try it. I got 41 500ml bottles in the end.

I don't know what to brew next. Any suggestions on an IPA / apa that would work well with either Amarillo or citra. I tried the search functions but couldn't get much. Although found an interesting recipe from Barry44, bit too advanced for me though!

Had a three week old wherry today, what an improvement on two weeks ago!

WA / Manngold, any updates on your brew? You must have cracked a bottle by now! :D

Just picked this kit up in the latest Wilko sale.
