Well thats it now on my third day of producing beer again(albeit from a kit) but must have done something right as it's bubbling well with a nice yeasty foam on the top.Think though it won't be long before i go full grain so i can brew the likes of speck hen tim taylor etc. What a great sight this is full marks to Jim and the Lads for all the super information and the great family feeling it's got to it.

What did you make FPB?

You'll find that All Grain (AG) looks a little daunting, but it is really not that hard. It takes time to get all of your kit together, and the brew day is a lot longer and needs some organisation, but it is great fun. If you don't want to dive right in, why not buy yourself a couple of tins of un-hopped extract, some fresh hops, dried yeast, and boil yourself up an extract recipe? It's the half-way house, and you'll learn a lot, which will help on the road to AG. If you need any advice or recipes, let us know.

Yeah, this site is good <group hug>...grrr, men and beer! :D

Haha! Too true FPB, homebrewing is the most enjoyable pastime I have ever embarked upon...nothing like enjoying the fruits of one's labour! :beer

Well it,s time to bottle up and its been exactly a week to the day that i started
sg was 1030 and fg was 1002.is this a good reading? In the past when i use to brew i just followed the instuctions and drank the results ,now iam older i'm more interested in the whole process. Not sure if my terminology is correct (oooh he's got an ology) bringing myself up to speed though with this forum and hopefully graham wheelers book which i'm waitng for from local library.all comments much appreciated.

That sounds very low for a FG to me - probably quite dry; I prefer my brew to be a bit sweeter so have been using a less attenuating yeast finishing around 1008 to 1010.

Nonetheless, nice to see some kits on the go... I started beer with kits, although coming from a home made wine background soon started to work my own extract recipes which is the next step... ;)
