kit disaster...
kit disaster...
the perils of making up a new kit whilst "under the influence" of the last kit - last night became all to apparent...
Things were going great up until when i started adding the cold water and dropped the water filter into the Wort...im hoping that it wont be too detrimental and by luck, there wont be any infection occur...
Id even made up a yeast starter instead of sprinkling it directly onto the top - the yeast starter was looking good as well!.
The water filter was IMO clean, but not sanitized - the casing which holds it also took a dip in the brew.
Just glad it was only a geordie scotish heavy cheapo kit and not a brupacks or woodfordes 20 quider - then i would have been cheesed off!..
anyone else had any disasters like mine and got away with it?..

I dropped a packet of yeast in my King Keg - fished it out with my hand after it sank to the bottom.
Made sure I washed my hand and arm before delving in.
The beer turned out fine.
Also had my pipe for my float in my KK come loose and fall off, so had to de-pressure and open it up and stick my hand in and reconnect it all together. Gassed it back up and all was fine.

i am sure you will be fine. I am sure the monks and brewers throughout the centuries never had anywhere near the level of cleanliness when brewing up that we do today. Sure, i never tasted their finished concoctions but i am sure they got away with it !
good luck anyway - can always use it on your chips if it fails

I've been in up past the elbow to tighten a nut. Unfortunately didnt have the luxury of sanitizing my arm beforehand as Chocolate Stout was p155ing out all over the bedroom floor. That was the same brew that the tin opener broke, so I used a variety of rusty, greasy looking tools from the shed to prize the lid open.
The brew turned out fine and I drank every last bottle! I doubt I'll get away with anything remotely close to that again.

Saturday, I was making my 2nd AG and the rubber washer on the tap of the boiler decided to split. Result - 90+C boiling wort begins to run from around the tap. Had to quickly drop it all into the FV while holding the tap on with one hand. Think it'll turn out ok though
