BrewFerm Kits - Help Please

Post by AndyMan » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:09 am

I have 3 Brewferm kits coming some time this week. Since I ordered them I have been reading about Candy Sugar. Will this make so much difference to the brew? Do any of you have any info on using house sugar or brewing sugar instead.

Kits to make are Raspberry, wheat beer and Gallia.

Thanks

Hi DaaB

Thanks for that, think I will start the raspberry off on normal sugar and get hold of some spray malt or spray wheat in the mean time.

Thanks for the feedback I will let you know how it turns out.

Brewferm kits are really good. Just remember to leave it to mature for a good while. I left my Ambiorix for 2 months but tasted it after just 1. The difference was very noticeable.

i did the Grand Cru using the following (for a 2 can batch)

1kg Clear Candy Sugar (as Daab says, you can get darker varieties)
250g Wheat Spray Malt (my remaining supply, id have used more if i had it)
250g of brewers sugar (glucose)

i also used Safbrew WB06 (2 packets), the whole thing went from 1080 to 1008, so it made for a brew around 9.3% which when left for about 2-3 months was absolutly knock out.

whether or not 1kg of table sugar in place of the candy sugar would make any difference in taste is debatable, however it was a blinding pint and one which im sure to do again, id make it the same way everytime.
