Recommendation for New Kit

Post by goochio » Tue Sep 30, 2008 3:06 pm

Just wondering what kit to try next. Can anyone recommend anything for me. I like the stronger varieties of ale such as Old Perculiar, Old Empire, Double drop Speckled Hen.

I have had mixed results so far my last batch was admirals reserve which i still have in the barrel is very bitter not sure whether to try another Woodfordes or not.

Grateful of any suggestions

I've got a Milestone Olde Homewtrecker coditioning in bottles. Its a dark Old Peculiar style ale, after 2 weeks in bottles its got quite a strong and treacly taste. I reckon it could be a good un this winter.

My 8 week old Admiral's is fantastic, but it needed the time to get that way.

I've gone through a fair old number of ales and bitters now and have come back to the Woodeforde's kits. The Wherry is mandatory if you haven't done one yet :)

try the headcracker, its a fantastic beer.

Dont loose interest in the woodfordes kits they may be a bit hit and miss when it comes to stuck fementations but ive not had one i cant drink yet.

the great eastern is another good beer, lighter but i hopped mine and it was a grand ipa type ale (used progress)

Is it poke ye after? Or just something to rock ye boat? Coopers Irish Stout is a hell of a place to start - experience the " OMFG! " factor!

Maybe someone here will know how to 'bump that up', without losing that indescribable flavour?

If so? I'm all ears! :D

I do like the stronger beers as long as there is some depth to the flavour.
I have just discovered Leffe which I really like, also IPAs
I suppose I could do with an idiot proof kit really!

Why not try doing your Geordie Bitter with 1kg dark spraymalt and a tin (454g?) of treacle? This will add ooomph as well as taste. Could be interesting.

I did a Brupaks Brewers Choice IPA kit recently and was pleasantly surprised. They're dry kits with several T-Bags of grains and hops which require steeping to extract their goodness. It was probably my best brew yet and I'll defo try another one. The grains/hops seemed to add a bit of 'freshness' back. Shake 'n' Vac?

I'd imagine their heavier beers are similarly good!
