Settling Time

Post by Preid » Tue Sep 30, 2008 9:26 pm

My Woodfordes Ale Kit has been settling now for 10 days.

Im due to go offshore in the next two weeks for four weeks. Will leaving it for 6 weeks be ok?

The smell when I took the lid off the fermenting bucket was strong! I've been told mixed things but I didnt bother putting the gunk at the bottom into the keg. Did I do it right?

I think yes if I get you right the stuff in the bottom of the FV is the trub I believe and the point of transfering from the FV to something else is to get it off this as old yeast etc over time will impart bad flavours :?

As you mentioned keg I assume you primed and added to keg which is now sealed. If thats the case then by the time you get back it will be ready to drink and better for the 6 week conditioning time.

The stuff in the bottom was about a inch thick and looked alot like foosty Baileys.

Keg was primed and its sealed good and tight, hopefully it wont leak any air out the top. I've heard bad things about this keg but its a bit late now.

Good to hear that she's a keeper!

Thanks for the reply.
