. . . Sampson's Strong Ale?
If so can you give me any indication of it's taste? What commercial / kit beer does it most closely resemble?

Right, that's it. I'm going to have to shout.
What's going on? Distracted are you eh? Ignore BlackBag day?
HAS ANYONE MADE ONE OF THESE KITS?

If I don't get a reply I'm going to hold my breath until I die. You see if I don't.
First death in the shiny new forum.

AND IT'LL BE ON ALL YOUR CONSCIENSES!!!

Nope, not made one. Not even stumbled across one in my online searches for new kits.

You sure you're not under the affluence of incahol?

That was close, I was going purple and everything.
This is what I was on about:

Got a feeling it'll be more like an old peculier than a barley wine. Anyway I ordered one last Tuesday so it should be with me soon. Hoping this will be my Christmas brew.

No - never done that one but thanks for the link. If you do brew and it's halfway decent do post again; I love trying new stuff!

Well, at least I now know what a "Strong Ale" should taste like:

http://www.brewersassociation.org/educa ... e_2008.pdf

Page 9.

Made it last night. 500g dark spraymalt, 300g brewers sugar, topped up to 3 1/2 gallons, OG1052. Used a yeast starter I'd made (Wyeast Scottish). I have to say I've no confidence in that yeast. Those of you out there with more experience of these will think that I'm worrying unnecessarily. When I'd initially made it up, as a 2 litre starter, I split it 4 ways, 3 went in the fridge, 1 was used straight away with my John Bull Masterclass Chocolate Stout. Which stuck. The only thing that got it going again was another packet of yeast and a couple of days next to the radiator (god knows what it'll taste like). Anyway, as said, I've no confidence in it. I also chucked in 1/2 a teaspoon of yeast food and heading compound. Then Heath Robinson entered the room.
As I'm getting short of brewing space the only area I had left to use was the attic. Average temperature there at the minute about 13 degrees. Even with my new brew belt I thought this may be asking a bit much. So I set about converting 2 polystyrene packing cases into a brewing box. By god I wish I could get photo's uploaded on here! It looks riz spectacular if I say so myself. 1 box on top of t'other, taped up, then hacked through with a bloody big knife. Barrel sits in perfect, cut down side for lead of brew belt to go through, polystyrene lid back on top. Nice n snug. Only problem being that the fermenter I've had to use for this doesn't have an airlock so I'm just going to leave it for a week and hope it's doing something before checking. That's the one problem you see, it's a bugger to get into.
So, there you go, Samson's Strong Ale, done.
