Just a quick question, I read a few posts on here where people have used golden syrup, honey or maple syrup as an alternative to sugar for priming bottles, so I think I am going to do a few bottles of each and do a taste test. My question is how do you get the syrup in the bottles, do you warm it up with some water so that it flows easily or do you just sit with a teaspoon of syrup over the bottle waiting for it to drop off the spoon - I think I might get bored of that after the first couple of bottles. I guess could use the squeezy bottles of syrup and just squirt a glug of it into each bottle?
Thanks for any advice,

Priming - alternatives to sugar?
Re: Priming - alternatives to sugar?
Funnily enough I`m just drinking a bottle that I primed with honey as an experiment. I just drizzled a good half teaspoon into the bottle and filled the bottle up on top of it.
Not sure if I`d do it again as its the only beer bottle I`ve opened that went off like a champagne and its about 50/50 beer and head, you can probably hear me burping from Leicestar if you listen carefully. Still, if you dont try you dont find out.
"Could somebody pat me on the back to get some of this wind up please ? ". Thanks, thats better.

Re: Priming - alternatives to sugar?
good idea
Now you got me thinking. I (and I know nothing about this!! , so please read with a pinch of salt).
Jelly babies? , Maple Syrup, Sherbert?, Fudge, Chocolate Sauce, Scotish Tablet, ...
Probably most would ruin what otherwise could have been a good pint had you used sugar or spraymalt!

Re: Priming - alternatives to sugar?
I've bottled some Almundbury Old with honey and a few others with treacle.
I just dissolved the honey/treacle (2 teaspoons for 4 bottles) in a little boiling water then zapped it in the microwave to re boil.
Any ideas on what to use to give a bit of a chocolate taste?

Hmmm, Maple syrup could well be worth trying in a bottle or two.
