Mild Question

Post by PMH0810 » Tue Dec 16, 2008 6:43 pm

Given a tin of Geordie Mild as a gift and, as I have an empty keg (oh, the shame) have knocked it together with a kilo of Geordie Beer Enhancer (Colchester Wilko's finally having installed an HB dept).

Anyone done this one? Any good?

Further quick Q. Label states FG should be in the region of 1.005 and, after 4 days is now calm as a millpond and at 1.010.

Normally I'd keg at this FG but the suggested FG on the label has thrown me.

SGwas 1.044 (a little short on water and 1kg of geordie beer enhancer instead of sugar).

Any help gratefully accepted?

Mine finished at 1010 too. I bottled it with no problems - you know the drill - 2 days constant gravity etc etc.. It'll be fine i'm sure

If it says to use sugar on the instructions and you used spraymalt then you'll end up with a higher final gravity. It'll be better beer though, and going from 1044-1010 will give you approx 4.5%abv so thats already pretty high for a mild - you wouldnt want it going much further...

Thank you for the replies; you're right, I have done this before and shouldn't have to ask (it's a confidence thing!).

Tonight'll be night 3 at 1.010 if there's no further movement on my return home. If so I'll keg tonight.

Thanks all!

I did the Geordie Mild, with honey.
As with most of my buggered about ales, it turned out aaaaaaful. Strange thing is I tried a small bottle the other night, and, after about 5 months, it still tastes aaaaaaaaffull. Naagh, after a bit of time it's not as bad. It just has the classic BlackBag taste of sherry as most of my brews do.

Sherry like taste? Can I assume you, like me, prefer ales in the "strong enough to taste" bracket? About 5% on towards brews that you should sit in a shop doorway after closing to drink?
