Hi everyone,
I'm new to this board so please be nice to a noob.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good Brown Ale kit (something comparable to Newky) out there. I'd like to get one to try. I've done a search but without any luck.
TIA
mf.

Re: Brown Ale
Welcome to the forum.
In my kit brewing days many years ago, Muntons nut brown ale was one of my favourites. Please be aware though, that you will not find an exact copy of any commercial brew from a kit.
Good luck with your brewing.

Re: Brown Ale
Thanks for the advise Horden Hillbilly, once my Wherry has finished in the fv I will give this a go.
Another quick question: I see the kit needs sugar added, would it be better to add DEM or LME instead of sugar and if so light or dark?
Thanks again,
mf.

Re: Brown Ale
I made a reasonable Newky Brown type purely by accident. I got a Morgans Royal Oak Amber ale kit and added 500 grams of light DME and 500 grams of medium DME as I`d run out of light. I also steeped about 150 grams of crystal malt for 20 minutes or so and added that to the mix with S 04 yeast. Came out as a sort of Newky light and would have been better with a few more fermentables, maybe another 200 grams of medium malt, dry hopped with a Goldings tea bag. I`ll probably do this one again myself as its a kit with a lot of potential.

Re: Brown Ale
I've made the Samsons. Bloody awful. Mind you that's probably got more to do with my brewing than owt else.
On a separate issue of making something that tastes like a commercial brew, can anyone remember McEwans Best Scotch? I've made a Brewmaker Scottish Heavy that's came out just like the scotch. Fortunately I happen to like the scotch so hey ho, I'm happy. Truth be told it's one of the only brews I've made this year that's moderately enjoyable.
