Help Please.

Post by Titanium Tone » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:40 pm

Hi all,
I started a john bull chocolate stout (Expirey date Jan 2010) 24 hrs ago and it has not started fermenting. The temp dropped last night to 17 (i brew in the garage) the temp is a steady 21 now and i am able to maintain that. Should i rouse the wort or add yeast nutrient or i have a pack Safale S-04 should i pitch that any help welcomed TT.

Rousing won't hurt, but it may well start up of its own accord - the drop in temperature will just have lengthened the lag phase a bit.

Wrap the FV in an old duvet or blanket to keep it snug and warm in your garage, this will help greatly to maintain a good temp for fermenting. Keep the yeasty beasties happy :)

The fact that you have some s04 means that everything will be OK regardless. Give it another day and if there's no signs of life, bung in the s04. :D
