Youngs Def Lager with Hallentau Hops

Post by Steiney66 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:12 am

Hi chaps,

I decided to adjust a youngs lager kit with hops after reading how they would improve flavour on cheap lager kits(san miguel clone?). I used 1000gm golden syrup with a touch of honey & boiled the hallentau hops for 10 mins then strained 2l water into the wort.

I made it up to 22ltrs - believe the recipe mentioned 20l (oops), my query is that the OG was 1035 which compared to my previous brews is rather low- does this mean the beer is going to be too weak - all ive got in the house is plain white sugar at the moment - so should I bung a bit in, or will the hoppiness make it more drinkable?

cheers in advance

It's not meant to be a strong lager but you have over-diluted it which has brought down the OG.
I'd bung a 100g to 200g of sugar in there and then pitch the yeast.
