Rescuing an over diluted brew?

Post by Dadstaxi » Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:53 am

When decanting my first brew for 25 years into a pressure barrel I noticed that the beer tasted very thin - very surprising since I am brewing Scottish Heavy with Spray malt.

Having gone back to basics I noticed that the pressure barrel seemed overfull and when I checked the fermentation vessel - calibrated with the assistance of my children - that in fact the brew was diluted to 50 not 40 pints!

Is there any way of rescuing this or are my options a) bin it and start again or b)drink small beer?

Many thanks

David

It's looking like drink small beer and put it down to experience. I can't think of a convenient way of recovering :(

Thanks for the advice - I had wondered if it was worth adding some hop tea to at least give it a strong flavour?

get another brew on to make you feel better first of all.

I think small beer is the order of the day. water down to shandy for the kids? ;)

what was the OG/FG readings? how much ABV are we talking here?

You could make up an another beer which is either quite a thick dark beer or reduce the brewlength and then mix the two together when drinking them in the same way that porter was originally made or the famous black-and-tan made of pale ale and stout.
