Calling all you Professionals. What SG should I be looking for my Tom Caxton Real Ale before it's ready to barrel?
Thanks People.

Really dependent on the OG and yeast used as to what the FG will be. I would think the OG for Caxton would probably be about 1.042 and should finish about 1.010

OG is original gravity..............the reading you should take in the FV before pitching the yeast. Average beer is around 1040 plus or minus 3 or so

When it holds the SG steady for a couple of days eg 1.090 then that generally indicates that fermentation has finished. It doesn't hurt to leave it for a couple more days before racking off

Thanks all. It's in the barrel and looking great. I've been reading a lot about wherry? I like a full bodied beer with a bit of strength, like my women (but don't tell the wife) lol. Any ideas or does this one sound a good choice?

wherry's a good session ale, not really a full boddied pint. if you look at the woodfordes range i'd say nelsons revenge done to 20 litres or nog. have a look for "old Ales". i'm sure someone will be along with some great suggestions

I've done something rash, I've ordered a tin of John Bull London Porter £8.99. Has anyone had a try of this?
And can you give me any tips?
