will wine yeast work
will wine yeast work
Hi all new to brewing and forums put a great eastern kit in the fermenter over a week ago and nothing seems to be happening hydrometer reads 1045 (I think) considering putting another packet of yeast in to see if that helps but can only get hold of wine yeast from local wilko anyone know if that might work? or should i just chuck it and write it down to experience?
Re: will wine yeast work
What temperature is it? Wine yeast will ferment it out too dry and might mess it up, Great Eastern was the tastiest kit beer I've done to date, very very nice stuff.
If the temp of the brew is too low in a garage move it inside for a few days, give it a chance to warm up and the yeast will wake up. Do not chuck it unless it has gone sour.

Actually, there are not that many wine yeasts that will consume maltotriose, see the link from Danstar for an interesting read concerning this, it's very informative.EoinMag wrote:What temperature is it? Wine yeast will ferment it out too dry and might mess it up,

Interesting, that's fair enough then, my impression was that it would ferment the wort out a lot drier. thanks for the heads up.
