Adding honey to a kit?

Post by colgilbec » Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:51 am

Just put on another kit of Colne Valley Bitter, but will wait until tomorrow to pitch yeast [ as i put too much hot water in by mistake].
I was pondering about putting in a jar of honey appx 500grms,to try and give a honey flavoured beer.
Looking through a few topics regarding honey it looks like a lot use this with all grain brewing.
I would be grateful if anyone can advise me on this,if anyone has tried it or knows a bit about it ,just a few questions.
Should i have added the honey when i put the malt extract and hot water in?
Would it be o.k. to add by itself just stirring in once the temp settles to 20dgrs , or should i heat the honey up with some of the wort then add?
There seems to be some discussion on other sites stating it results in a dry beer?
Or should i just stick to the original kit format?.
If you tie a piece of buttered toast to a cats back and drop it from a building, it hovers just above the ground rotaing slowly.

I personally think Brupaks kits stand well done to the instructions, it's all down to personal preference though.
