Hey all,
I have been given a WW Kit (or 2) for Christmas by some friends who went in together, and I have the following equipment too;
Water steriliser
Plastic Keg like thing with a hole in the top
Plastic bucket with a flat lid
A hydrometer
A "combined injection and pressure release valve"
A screwable inable plastic tap
About a metre of plastic tubing
A plastic spatchelor thing
As well as 2 of the 3kg WW kit boxes
I am aiming to follow the instructions on the packet, unless any of you have any other ideas, but I don't see what the valve and the tubing are for. Please advise.
Also, can I use miltons steriliser for baby stuff if I run out of the brewers stuff?
Also - I have a water softener, and no mains tap (local water is very hard). There is a filter off the kitchen tap which removes some of the saltiness and any heavy metals. Should I turn off the water softener for a few days, or maybe set it to recharge (the instruction manual says that when it is recharging the water coming through the taps should be unsoftened). Or is the filtered softened water ok?
Thanks for all the info in advance!

Here we go, lads!
I'll kick off, as I'm here .....
" Water Steriliser " ? Sounds like Camden Tablets. Does it say so anywhere on the label?
" Plastic Keg like thing with a hole in the top "
How like a Keg? Could it be a Keg? Is it like a white, plastic beer barrel with a round, raised, threaded neck?
" Plastic bucket with a flat lid ". FV. Fermentation Vessel. They're handy!
Hydrometer? Ye'll need an empty, plastic bottle to put that in too. Pick one up.
" A "combined injection and pressure release valve" ". Cool. See if it's screw onto ye keg thingy
" A screwable inable plastic tap ". Screw that! ..... Into the bottom of ye Keg Thingy? (Don't go mad though. It's not a test of Manliness)
" As well as 2 of the 3kg WW kit boxes. " Mm. Oh well ..... Never mind

Re: Brewing Kit as Chrissy Pressent - what are all the bits for?
i don't think it's actually water steriliser, think it's just a normal sanitiser. from the look of the picture i think it's ritchies which is not dissimilar to VWP.
Re: Brewing Kit as Chrissy Pressent - what are all the bits for?
it was a powder - it just called itself steriliser and cleaner. I have a lot of baby equipment sanitising fluid from Tesco (very cheap) which is 5% sodium hypochlorite, which should be ok?
Thanks for all your help guys - about to post another post about my current progress with more questions!

Beyond my own experience, Tiffer. But, I do remember reading things about that sort of stuff. Might be best ye check it out through the Search button, focussing in the Cleaning and Sanitising board. Just to be sure (to be sure).
