Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Did mine to the instructions, and apart from it sticking at about 1.017/8 which was put right by re-pitching with some Safeale, I finally got it down to 1.012 from 1.043. It's by far the best tasting pint I've done so far. Taking a while to clear, but 4 weeks in the keg it's almost there, I think it will be bright by 6 weeks.
I'd go with the instructions first time, then tailor it later. Someone mentioned using an extra 500g of light hopped dme which sounds good and I'll definitely try, but you've gotta taste this beauty as it's intended first. Doesn't taste like a homebrew kit at all, I'll be ordering many more of these.

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Can I just have a quick hijack of this thread to ask the same question about Brupaks Birkby Bitter? Hopefully I'll be knocking it up this weekend.
Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Forgot to mention, I reduced the brew length to 21l instead of 23l and I primed my keg with 90g of demerara sugar.
Not tried the Birkby Bitter yet myself, but on the strength of the Fixby Gold I'm mad keen on working my way through the entire "Pride of Yorkshire" range as well as making Fixby Gold a regular brew

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
I did my Fixby as per instructions and the full 23l and tastes really good. Mine has been in the keg for just over 4 weeks and is in my shed, still not cleared so i'm sure it will taste even better within the next few weeks.
Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Thanks lads, brewed up the Black Moor last night, smelled and looked the biz. Fixby's next!
Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Just a word of caution, if your brewing this with adding 500grms of muntons hopped sray malt ,expect the abv to be well over the 5% mark,so not a session beer, lol.
Funny ,though how you sink a few and your lips dont work how the brain wants them to

If you tie a piece of buttered toast to a cats back and drop it from a building, it hovers just above the ground rotaing slowly.

mind I'm like that without alcohol

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Lovely big frothy head on her this morning, approx. 30 hours after pitching. Every bit as vigorous as the Coopers.barl_fire wrote:keep us posted on how the Black Moor goesAt. Ailbhe's Brewery wrote:Thanks lads, brewed up the Black Moor last night, smelled and looked the biz. Fixby's next!
I really like the cut of its jib!
It's a lot lighter in Colour than the Coopers aswell, which was looking like a barrel of tar. Can't wait to get bottling and sampling it. Those teabags they give you in the Brupaks are the bee's patellas.

get's my vote thenAt. Ailbhe's Brewery wrote: looking like a barrel of tar.

sounds fantastic, I'll definitely get one of these on at some point so I can compare with the Coopers. I think choosing which Brupaks kit to do next will be tricky, kid in a sweetshop time at my local HBS

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
The Black Moor hit the lid of the FV yesterday, and the aroma eminating is makes me want to have at it with a ladle.
I'll win no friends for saying this but it's impressing me more senses wise than the Coopers.
We all know where the proof of the pudding is though, and it has a lot to do to keep in with it.

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Well, the Black Moor's on it's 10th day of fermentation and it's at about .016 now. It takes its time, so I gave it a bit of a stir-about to give the whole operation a good boot up the backside. I drank the stuff I hydrometred and it was very impressive. Should be a good one, I'll leave it another few days to try and get it down another few spots.
The colour wasn't what I expected: more very dark brown than the Cooper's jet black. Looks very appetising though, can't wait for this stuff to mature.
How long do ye give it?

If it's anything like the Coopers then you'll be sinking a few cheeky ones after a week in the kegAt. Ailbhe's Brewery wrote:

Planning another Pride of Yorkshire kit meself once I've done me Black Rock Nut Brown Ale and Geordie Mild kits, although can't make me mind up between the Almondbury, Honley, Birkby or Scammonden

Re: Brupak's Fixby Gold
Yeah, two weeks hot and the same cold they reccommend in the instructions, I was wondering if that was enough.
