Coopers Stout Recipe

Post by scottmoss » Fri Feb 05, 2010 12:02 pm

Hi,

Been on the coopers web site forum and a guy from coopers recommends this recipe:-
Best Extra Stout

1.7kg Coopers Original Series Stout
1.7kg Coopers Original Series Dark Ale
1kg Dextrose
Made to 23 litres
Both sachets of yeast (re-activated Coopers yeast culture)
Ferment at 18C.
Be prepared for "foaming over" during the first couple of days
Cheers
PB2
Coopers Brewery
Wondering if any has ever tried this?

One of my reasons for brewing is the cheap cost, that'll double my current price per pint, using 2 cans. Interested to hear how it comes out though.

It won't be far off the cost of a premium 3kg kit. I've just noticed that the "Best Extra Stout" is available to buy in bottles from coopers so this must be the similar recipe?

I reckon if I got my beer now from the supermarket I'd be saving money.

Homebrew's more expensive for me.

I might have to try this one. I love coopers stout made with 1 kg dark dsm, didn't like the old dark ale so much but that might have been me messing up. If it's anything like Hook Norton double stout I will put it on the list.

So far I've not found a home brew stout better than coopers made as above or to ditch's recipe ( having done both I'm not really sure how much difference the dark compared with medium dsm makes... Both are great!)

Agree about the Dark Ale. I prefer the stout too. The dark Ale has a sort of 'treacle-ly' taste. The stout is much smoother, more burnt chocolaty.
(although, saying that I am drinking a pint of the Dark ale right now. Wouldn't want to waste it. 8) )

fella at my hbs reckons the only difference between pale/med/dark dme is the colour all 3 should in theory produce an identical tasting brew.
