barreled
barreled
hey all just a question, is it normal that my beer will taste like slightly flavoured water in the early stages of it being barreled?? its been in the barrel now for a week in fermentation temp just about to move it to serving temp now and also there seems to be a hell of a lot of pressure build up? is this normal again sorry for being a pain just this is first time brewwing so not too sure lol hope to hear from you soon thanks once again si
Re: barreled
No worries mate thats what this place is all about
The pressure in the barrel is nothing to worry about and is usually quite noticeable with budget barrels. Secondly beer goes through some strange stages of flavor in the first and even second week of barreling especially if you have primed it with sugar. I've tasted beers that seem tasteless in the first week after barreling which have bloomed into wonderful brews.

Re: barreled
What kit is it, Si'?
Re: barreled
thank you all for your help in getting me though this process lol the kit im using is the the finlandia talviolut (winter) kit i bought it from a local shop that specialises in beer brewing kits and stocks all the startup equiptment i went for this kit as its not the cheepest kit there (so it didnt taste like crap and put me off altogether lol) and its not the most expensive one so that if it did go tits up (as its my first time) its not too much money down the drain sos to speak lol i dont know if anyone else has tried the kit? regards si
Re: barreled
Mate, seach this forum by the kit name, if anyone's done this one, you'll find it. If you followed the instructions, and didn't use too much water, it should be o.k. I would get another brew on, just in case. If you have only one barrel, you can bottle the next one.
Re: barreled
yeah tis all well and good saying that but its the price of all the bottles and another kit as am relly brassic a the mo thats the problem otherwise i would have another keg and a 20 quid kit on the go lol but thanks for the advice the only thing is that on the instructions for this kit there was no info for barreling just bottling thats all

Re: barreled
Just that ye took the rug out from under my feet with that kit, mate. Possibly everyone else's, by the lack of more informed responses? Simple fact is; I've never in my life heard of that one. Never even heard of Finnish beer, come to that
Come to think of it; Wouldn't they likely go for a more Lager type brew?
Aha! I wonder if That might be the source of the problem? Lager needs a different process, I believe? Did ye treat this stuff just like a 'normal' beer kit?
What ye need here is a Lager kit maker, point out what they do differently and give a verdict on what ye might expect if ye don't 'Cold Ferment', or what ever it is they do

Re: barreled
I think he was postulating that you're probably the only person on the planet who's made that beer kit
What made you choose it BTW ? Finnish beer doesn't leap out as a "must brew"

Re: barreled
OK.
After fermentation's over it should be tasting like beer (all be it "green" beer), I'd be a bit concerned if it just tastes like flavoured water. Leave it a week and have another taste.
