Yeast in barrel

Post by lukemartyn78 » Thu Feb 11, 2010 3:27 pm

Hi,

I've recently tried my first homebrew ale kit. Having completed the fermentation process over a week I have now transferred my mix into a barrel & added the required amount of sugar. I'm a little worried as I had transferred some of the yeast that was sitting in the fermenting bucket into the barrel. I now realise this was an error but am wondering if this riun by barrell of ale or if it will just sink to the bottom of the barrel and not be an issue?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Luke

Hi,

This is fine! The yeast will east the sugar that you used for priming then they will all fall to the bottom after 2-4 weeks.

If you're still concerned you could always pour a small sample for 'inspection' :)

Some people add a spoonful of the yeast to the barrel on purpose. A kind of insurance policy, to ensure secondary fermentation takes place.

I'll just pretend that was my intention all along!

Thanks for all the replies.
