first brew (funny smell)

Post by pongobilly » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:30 am

i have had my first brew in the fermenter for just over 24hrs in my spare room and the whole of upstairs smells, is this normal, the room has an air temp of around 18 degrees and i have a brew belt on 4 inches up as per instructions for the room temp, it looks like its fermenting well ( it has a good head on it ) but not much activity in the air lock

Sounds like you dont have a good seal between the fermenter and the airlock. To be honest I don't notice the smell too much but that's probably because i'm pretty accustomed to it

Anyway, it sounds like everything is going to plan so don't worry :)

wait till you add boiling water to spray malt (the darker the better). mrs chopper walked in saying the place smelt like a brewery
