Muntons Traditional Bitter smell

Post by marko » Fri Feb 19, 2010 12:09 am

hi all

Has anyone done this and what did it smell like at the end of the fermentation stage? Mine has a sour twang, i havnt brewed in ages and cant remember smelling like that.

i also dropped my o ring in the fv 4 days after fermentation had started, i sterilised my arm and fished it out. Could this mean its infected?

Sounds like it could have become infected. You may have sterilised your arm to fish it out, but what was on the ring in the first place..... Rings are notorious for harbouring all kinds of things between them and your skin (not that I'm saying you're unclean!!). Have a good taste anyway - if it's vinegary, you know what to do with it......

Very glad. Give it six weeks in the keg for a chance to condition.

I realised later on (when I was spanking more money on homebrew stuff!) that you weren't talking about a finger ring as I first thought and actually were referring to the 'o' ring under the screwcap. I am such a numpty. #-o
