Milestone IPA very very dark

Post by slippyr4 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:25 pm

Hi all,

just started on a Milestone's IPA kit, for the first time.
I am wondering if they have put the wrong tins in the box because the wort is extremely dark - looks like a porter or almost a stout.
Is this just a dark looking pale ale? or is something wrong?

thanks

Hi!

I've made this kit and it was fairly dark in colour - not as dark as a porter, maybe more like an 'old ale' in colour (?Hobgoblin or a bit lighter). I do think the colour was one of the best things about it actually.

It's also not really very like an IPA at all - I think it's so much like a mild that it should be renamed 'Mildstone not very IPA'. I do hope that you weren't expecting a fairly pale, very well-hopped IPA (which is what I'd hoped for) because I was initially really disappointed. Then I drank a couple and realised that it still did the job despite not being very hoppy! I did end up enjoying it but didn't think it 'did what it said on the tin', and this has somewhat put me off doing any other Milestone kits, although I do know some round these parts love them.

God luck with it, I hope you do enjoy it.

Nick.
