Forgot to warm condition

Post by Up the blades » Wed Mar 03, 2010 2:52 pm

Hi folks, i was over at my brothers house the other week and decided to knock him up a quick simple lager kit. However once i bottled it the whole lot went into the conservatory where its obviously pretty cold. I forgot to keep in the warm for a week. What will the consequenses of this be ?

You might be lucky and the yeast still managed to ferment the sugars and carbonate the lager (particularly if a lager yeast was used). However, at low temperatures that might take a lot longer than a week. I suspect you'll just have a flat bottled lager - pop one and give it a try!

You could bring them up to room temperature, pop the caps and sprinkle in a few grains of some Nottingham yeast (or something similar), re-cap, gently mix and warm condition again as usual.

Just bring 'em back into the warmth for a week or two then put them back into the cool. The yeast will almost certainly wake up and do the biz.
