crown caps
The simple answer is no
The complicated answer is no because the action of crimping the cap and then removing it will set up stress fractures (commonly known as metal fatigue) in the metal weakening it and so it would not seal.
You would also have trouble opening out the crimp again so that it would fit the bottle.
If you are looking for a cost effective bottling solution buy 1 litre PET bottles of "budget" lemonade from the supermarket. These can be used over and over again

pet bottles
does using plastic bottles cause any difference to the beer, surely by re using the screw tops they loose there seal, because you break that ring thing when you open them dont you
Re: pet bottles
In the short term no, the ring thing that you break when you open a bottle is only an "Anti tamper" seal that shows whether the bottle has been opened before. The actual seal is formed by the lip on the neck of the bottle pushing up against the soft plastic pad inside the cap. Long term storage of beer in PET bottle can be a problem as they are O2 permeable.pongobilly wrote:does using plastic bottles cause any difference to the beer, surely by re using the screw tops they loose there seal, because you break that ring thing when you open them dont you
As I bottle all my beer, and being a bit of a tight wad, I thought about using those re-seals as it would cut the cost slightly, but as Pauls picture shows it looks like they are only good for sealing a beer you don't finish, ........a problem that I never encounter.
Just buy the crowns, they're only work out a 1p-2p or so each adding approx 40p to a brew.

i use PET pop bottles but i get the whole faimily to collect them for us, never had an issue. its a bit like re-cycling saving the earth while enjoying a brew. however some of the cheaper brands ie Spar own make Lemonade, repeat spar own make lemonade, the screw doesn't always tighten again once its been used. had to chuck three litres of Large-r.
