Loss of carbonation after pouring into glass.
I recently tried my modified lager and was well-pleased with the bitterness and aroma of the hallertau and saaz hops coming through. But despite being (I thought) well primed, nearly all fizzyness had dissappeared within minutes of pouring into a pint glass. Initially there was plenty of fizz - almost like a coke, and that held for say 5 minutes but then it tailed off quite markedly, as if someone had just turned it off.
Does anyone know what might be the reasons for this? I've not had this phenomenon before - every lager I've brewed before now has been very consistent in it's level of carbonation.

Kegged or bottled?

Bottled. kept in warm for one week. Then out in the cold for two weeks since.

That's strange then. Did you calculate the carbonation or just go with the unreliable half a teaspoon per bottle method?dedken wrote:Bottled. kept in warm for one week. Then out in the cold for two weeks since.
Re: Loss of carbonation after pouring into glass.
I used John Palmer's guide. Bulk primed with 3.5 - 4 oz to ensure a good level of carbonation!! I have heard mention before that a wet glass can affect fizzyness but I don't know if this is true. The glass I used certainly was wet though as I just been drinking water from it.

Stag Weekend? They'll drink it. They'll enjoy it. They'll eventually pass out

Just because people will drink crap beer, does not mean they should necessarily.Ditch wrote:dedken wrote: Oh, well at least it'll taste good.
I Do enjoy seeing such honest, basic Sense talked on here some times!

True. If it turns out rubbish I won't be forcing it on them - in fact I won't even take it along . But I'm sure they'll drink it - considering my first homebrew party last weekend was a rousing success - I'd say that speaks volumes about the quality of my brews?!?!?
Maybe.

Re: Loss of carbonation after pouring into glass.
Use it for drinking games, won't last longer than a few minutes in a glass that way!
