My brew smells of Eggs/Sulphur?

Post by Roy » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:50 pm

My edme IPA kit has been in the FV for 6 days now. I lifted the lid earlier today and it smells of eggs... is this just elements of the fermentation or something more serious?

It can be down to the strain of yeast used, some are worse than others. It won't normally hang about when it's finished.

Yeast is a strange beast. Always give it the benefit of the doubt, regardless of the smell or look of fermentation. It usually works out OK.

Nice one, put my mind at rest! Gonna pop to morrisons on the way home from work and get a turkey baster to take some wort out to start measuring the gravity over the next few days.

I use a sterlised SS kitchen ladel normally to take samples out of my fermenters.
