temp for conditioning in barrel?

Post by zz9pza » Sun Aug 15, 2010 11:27 am

Hi My keg has had its first week in the kitchen to kick start the conditioning then have read that it should be moved toa cooler location to clear and settle.
What should this temperature be idealy? I am brewing muntons ipa.
The reason i ask is i have moved it to the out house as this is the coolest place and doesn't get disturbed plus i have put up a cardboard shield to block sunlight but in this warm weather it is still 20 degrees out there.
Im going to have to build myself a fermenting/cooling fridge thats the next plan :)

See how it tastes in a week or so as it is....if you are happy...stick with your current method. I don't see temps staying high for much longer anyway...
In the short term, as you have a top tap, you could part submerge the barrel in a slightly bigger vessel with cold water?
I'm not sure on conditioning temps and not too bothered as I'm happy with my results..
I believe the cooler 2nd week is to enable the ale to soak up the co2 but I'm not bothered about fizzynes with ales....
Lagers maybe....
