woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
I can't drink that... it tastes of vinegar why? is it wasted? I can't drink that?!
Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
Give us the background - is it fresh from the fermenter, or has it been conditioning? Even with this information though, I'm afraid vinegar is not a good smell to be smelling. Most likely you picked up an infection due to insufficient sterilisation, or too much air's got in at some point. Sorry dude, it's likely drain cleaner.
Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
It sounds like you have an infected brew. Sadly, in all likelihood, it will only be good for the plughole, as pa says.
You need to give your fermenting equipment a thorough clean and a good dose of a chlorine based disinfectant - bleach, VWP, etc..

Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
It was a geordies brew, that I was fermenting for over 30 days! when I do it next time, I'll do it for 8 days and keep the lid on tight?!
Oh and I did a video of tipping it ALL down the plughole lol I'll post it up soon!

Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
We've all done it, Jarv ~ well; Maybe none of us have tried to 'ferment' a brew for thirty days (?!) That's down right f**king biblical!
Don't what possessed ye there, mate.
Anyway, there ye go; Ye've now become a more experienced beer maker already. You too can now turn to anyone suggesting they plan to leave beer in the FV for a month and say; " You wanna get a check up from the neck up, son! Ye'll end up with five gallons of Sarsons'! "

Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
Fingers crossed for me.
I was a bit laps with my currently fermenting stout
I bottled up a brew, cleaned out the FV, dropped in the sanitising fluid i used for my bottles for 1/2 hr, rinsed and put it in the shed with lid on.
Following day, threw a Coopers Stout in there with some DME and some yeast vit off my mate in a brewery...

looking good, just hope I dont get sarsons!

Looking good, Geezah. That's what we like to see
Small pang of jealousy too, about the dial type thermometer there. I have absolutely no need for one, of course. But, I can't deny my simple liking for dials!

Yeast Vit?! Thanks, mate. But, I hate the stuff myself. Used it once and didn't like it. Get some air in there and Coopers yeast does the rest, for me.
Anyway; Now that we've so successfully hijacked this thread ..... Where shall we demand it be taken?

Re: woah... my beer tastes of vinegar
TBH mate, I made up this brew like so..
3-4l of cold water in FV and stirred in the DME - no clumping,
added a kettle of boiling water and tipped in the tin.
Filled the tin with boiling water and swilled and added.
Filled fv to 20l mark with cold water and gave a bit of a stirr..... no thrashing.
Threw in yeast nute and yeast and dropped it in the waterbath.
I find that with Coopers kits, I get a 50/50 volcanoe effect using similar methods of making my wort.
Maybe its temps, yeast...I certainly rule out thrashing with my experience and method.
Either way, you cant beat a Coopers!
I just emailed Coopers with that photo, and told them they should look at re-writing their 'Sanatising' part of their instructions.
