coopers lagers.
coopers lagers.
im going to do my first lager. will be from coopers range but which one. Pils / european lager / heritage lager. Any advice > I will be adding tettnang hop tea and dry hop ( as i have it a while and didnt use it yet.) ......will ferment in the garage so will be at whatever temps we get in the next few weeks. think its between european and heritage but never had either....pils is in third at the moment. all advice appreciated
Re: coopers lagers.
Heritage Lager, if done by recipe (1can lager + 1can liquid light malt) imho needs bit more hopping, other than that, very nice drink.
Re: coopers lagers.
I've got a heritage waiting to go, so can't comment on the result but can vouch for the euro. I always make it as per instructions with 500g ldm and around 300g glucose.
Should ferment just fine in the garage with it's lager yeast maybe just wrap a blanket round it as it drops a bit.
Let us know how you get on

I always go for the European lager, with the lager yeast. No need for any hop teas. With 1 kg BKE. tastes like Stella.

Hi,
I've done the Euro lager a couple of times and its good...
I hear the pils is a little more hopped/bitter so if you like that then thats an option...
I usually make my Coppers kits up with 500g light hopped DME and 200-300g Light DME and sugar to make up a kilo in total.
Pitch the yeast at ~15C Leave it to ferment for 10-14 days at around the same temp and then move somewhere cooler for the yeast to drop out then bottle 5-7 days later (prime with equivalent of 6-8g per litre)
and 6 weeks later its a great drink!
I also sometimes make a hallertau hop tea/dry hop
its my goto lager even though I do AG these days...
You may iwsh to make your euro/pils up as per instructions first time then tailor futre brews to your tastes from there!
Just try to get the pitching temprature right and keep it in the 12-18 C range without too many fluctuations and you cant go wrong.
I use a sealed fermenter with an airlock as I'm paranoid about infection due to the length of time its in the FV... (but thats just me!)

This one definately gets better after 4-6 weeks minimum in the bottle (cool and dark place)
Enjoy!

Re: coopers lagers.
think i will go european. Im not gone on the real bitter pils like north german pils prefer the like of staropramen etc. will use some of the tettnang ...nothing i hate more than having hops and not using them then tasting the brew and thinking it would be great if only i used the hops.....if in doubt add more hops is the motto...
Cheers all
