lagers use a lot of suger to prime so they are nice and fizzy but your barrel cant hold that amount of pressure so the relief valves doing its job which also means your lager wont be as fizzy as it should be. you would be better bottling lager next time and putting ales in a barrel.

As said above, plastic barrels don't give great results with lager. If you want draught lager you're better off going the cornelius keg route.
