geordie scottish stuck fermentation?

Post by simo » Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:29 pm

Hi all

My latest brew is a geordie scottish export made with 1KG of med spray malt.

The OG was 1034 and now today and yesterday the hydrometer read 1014.

I think this is too high to be finished, what do you guys think?

It has an eggy smell too but tastes ok if a little sweet after a quick taste test.

If it is stuck can i just shake the FV to get it going again and then maybe warm it up?

The temp has been between 18 and 22c all along.

Cheers

Simon

Hi

1014 is probably a bit high, how long has it been in the fermenter, it may just need a bit longer.

Callibrate your hydrometer to make sure it's accurate by making sure it reads 1.000 in plain water. You might find it is 2 or even 4 degrees out!

I've had FGs of 1.014 before though and haven't caused too much of a problem - certainly not as much as the 1.020 of my recent two can kit!
